Nancy Kimmons was a widow for 33 years but the first few years were the hardest. She struggled with the death of my father and decided to move to Greensboro to the Carrilon assisted living. At church she joined a small group that was led by Morgan and Marilyn Jones, where she began to thrive. She started teaching the Bible study and began to care for other widows and young women.
As a pastor of a church of 1100 people, I knew widows who were struggling to cope with their new normal. Many of them got involved in small groups and became connected to other members of the church. These women reached out to other new widows.
A few years ago I started praying about how to minister to those widowed and found very few resources. When my friend Tom Canaday passed away, I would call his wife, Brenda. I wanted to be sure she was not overwhelmed. But she was! In her grief, she started reaching out to other widows in a unique way that showed them somebody cared and understood. I saw in her a solution as to how we could best work with those widowed.
We began to pray about what God would have us do and NOW WHAT? became an idea. So here we are in definite need of your prayers! NOW WHAT? is an organization that helps those who are widowed help each other.
Our goal is simple…we desire to be an advocate for those widowed. We seek to know the widowed who desire help and to direct them to the best resource providers for their situation. We will support those widowed through care groups that offer care, prayer, and encouragement as they build friendships. We desire to establish social outreaches that help those widowed find friends with common interests, to increase their social network, find places of service, and have their mental, physical and spiritual needs met.
